Am i a writer yet?

My website is live, my book is almost ready to be published. Does that mean it’s real? Am I a writer yet?

It’s already been a long journey to get to this point, I started writing Nightflower about two and a half years ago, and right now there is nothing out there to show for any of it. But this is an exciting step, creating an online presence from where I can start writing blog posts and putting my work out there.

I hope to use this site to document some of the things I have learnt along the way whilst writing Nightflower, as well as to provide updates on the book itself or indeed any possible sequels.

I’m not a writer yet. Because nobody has read what I have written yet. Well, a few people have. But the book needs to be published, and then read. A story only exists in the mind of the reader, and to be a writer is to put that story into other people’s minds. So, when the book is finally out, and (hopefully) someone has read it, then I think I can call myself a writer. Until then I am just some guy who wrote some words. If I’m really lucky, those that read it might even like it. A bit.

This is a scary time. I am going out on a limb, putting myself out there and all that. But I want to be a writer. I have so many characters that live in my head courtesy of the writers I have admired over the years. Perhaps one day I will write some blogs about those. The idea of my stories existing in other people’s minds is incredibly exciting.

So here goes.
