Another quick update on writing progress for The Coven of the Bond book 2. The title really gives the game away a little here, but…the first draft is complete! In the end I was able to finish pretty much on schedule, which is to say, by the target date I had set for myself.
Now I enter the “cooldown” phase of the process, where I have to put the book away for a few weeks and give my brain time to let go of it. This allows me to return to the book for the second draft with fresh eyes. It puts a little distance between me and the words I spent almost a year writing, so that when the time comes for me to rip them apart I can do so more freely. It’s not quite like reading the book for the first time, but close.
I really enjoyed returning to Caya’s story. It was quite different this time around, coming to an existing world and existing characters. It really felt like returning to old friends and catching up with them, seeing what they’ve been up to and how they’ve changed. I hope I have done Caya justice, and that the continuation of her story is true and honest to her, to Naari and everyone else (no spoilers here). Most of all, I really hope people enjoy it.
My aim is still to publish the book before the end of the year, and I will post here when I have more details. I have a title in mind, but it might change, so for now that will have to stay a secret!
